On September 27th, 20 years after the Beijing Declaration, nations will convene for the Beijing+20 conference in #NewYork, with the aim of agreeing upon a new set of concrete commitments to advance women’s rights for the next 20 years. Missing from the discussion will be the voices of women who are unjustly detained around the world. This month we recognize 20 of these women.

Blen Mesfin, Meron Alemayehu, and Nigist Wondifraw are unjustly detained in #Ethiopia.

These three are leading members of Ethiopia’s Blue Party, which advocates peacefully for democratic principles. They were among a number of opposition party members and others arrested and charged with inciting violence during anti-ISIL demonstrations in Addis Ababa in April 2015, which were organized by the government of Ethiopia following the killing of 26 Ethiopians by ISIL. They remain behind bars to this day.  #FreeThe20
